If the Tangerine Tyrant ever ends up in The Hague - as he absolutely should if he goes through with these threats - I think the prosecution is going to find the whole premeditation thing is a total slam dunk.

Iran war latest: Trump issues expletive-laden threat to Iran demanding Strait of Hormuz be opened

In a post on social media, the US president says in Iran “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one” if the key shipping lane is not reopened.

And talking of war crimes, can someone who knows more about them than I do explain how "universal jurisdiction" works?

Obviously Trump is never going to be held accountable for war crimes in the US, as it seems to be the law there that the president is above the law.

But that's not the law in Europe. Could he be arrested and sent to the Hague if he travels to a European country that has the cojones to do something about it?

So apparently UK law considers that universal jurisdiction for war crimes is indeed a thing.

Sadly, I can't see any possibility of the government actually letting it happen.

@statsguy The way you get international war crimes trials is first you declare someone a danger to the world; preferably a genocidal eugenicist, then you invade their country and capture said war criminal alive, then you get to dictate what kind of trial goes on. That's the lesson of Milosevic and Hussein, if not just Hitler's toadies. The key is being in place with a military force that is making sure the trials happen, and not fighting a military that is de facto defending a criminal.
