(My key point here is that the defined specification which all our mobile phones have supported for over a decade offers a whole range of alert severity levels, but in Ontario we accepted a service offering which only uses the topmost priority level, defeating the ability for the general populace to exercise choice about which alert types should wake us up in the middle of the night.)
