Brace yourselves for a reproduction postcard from 1915 or so, a cornucopia of an increasing number of "Wait, what?" the longer you look at it. It has chickens and the barest fucking tangential connection to the holiday of Easter and that's wonderful. Gaze upon it:

#VintagePostcards #Postcards #HistoricalFashion

Every year I look at this postcard, it's my one Easter tradition. It's more and more fucked up the longer you look at it, but also just very joyful, and if that isn't suitably eldritch and macabre for a holiday I don't care about but must be subjected to, I don't know what is.

Also heck I spent way too long on that alt text, I hope you enjoy it!

It's not quite Easter yet and I don't actually celebrate, but wow do I love this postcard and will take any opportunity to show it to people. 😸
@sinituulia "Faster, my hen, for you must yield more eggs! More! MORE!"
@sinituulia Many of Nyström's Christmas cards are equally delightful and careless and provocative, just love them.
@helna A lot of them are perfectly whimsical and cute, and then there are multiple where you start looking at them and find several different layers. 😄 I've only seen some, but still!
@sinituulia oh my god! 😂
@Rhube I keep imagining that the artist was advised to design a card like "Just slap some chickens and daffodils on it, it will sell" and went "Ohhhhhh, I'll slap some chickens on it alright!"
@sinituulia A feast for the eyes and brain - I salute your alt text! 😁
@kaminenmosher Thank you! The card delights me every year and I could have gone on longer about it! 😂
@sinituulia ah, her lovely Ether bonnet chock full of dead jesus chickens. how nice. And she's completely charming. She'll roast the one on the leash later on, when she stops popping eggs out of her butt
@weezmgk It's so demented and I love it
@sinituulia celebrate fertility, kill the cock!
@sinituulia
She also looks like she has a stole and muff made from dead hens or cocks.
@raymaccarthy As outlined in the alt text also, yes. 😄 It's wonderful

@sinituulia
Sorry, I read the alt text after I posted.

It's marvellously bonkers and I do like a lot of Jenny Nyström's art.

Tove Jansson's Easter postcards

Did you know this about Tove Jansson – postcards were an important part of her career and a great source of income. Check out her Easter cards!

Tove Jansson
@katzentratschen Some of them but not all of them! I went to an exhibition of Jansson's work when I was much much younger but while it had other works, there was a much larger quantity of Moomin...
@sinituulia whu… wow. i mean… no wait… what? WHAT? oh wow.
@sinituulia This is simply amazing. You’re right. I can’t stop looking at it. So much to digest!
