When I was a young democratic socialist, a comrade observed that Republicans only wanted to fund the military (to acquire and protect international property), the police (to protect and serve private property in America), and some courts (to adjudicate private disputes, the majority of which are commercial in nature). Otherwise Republicans believed there were no other legitimate roles for government. The President's proposed budget is that extreme.
