I realize that the lack of an algorithm is actually a serious drawback of the #Fediverse.

Without a form of temporal guidance and permanence, my timeline is an endless stream of content, interesting or not. Since I am not continously reading, probably I miss most relevant posts.

We'd certainly not need a central attention-steering and engagement-driven master algo, but some kind of configurable mechanism that is "smarter" than just hashtags and retoots. Just IMHO.
