The Irish Government have launched a consultation with the public about their Digital Wallet with 10 questions.
This is not exclusively a tool for age verification and could be a critical tool in everyday life. I think absolutely everyone in Ireland should engage in it.

Concerned about privacy?
Concerned about what happens if your phone breaks?
Concerned about forcing people to have a Google or Apple account to access Government services?
Voice it all.

Welcome to the Government Digital Wallet

We understand that big life events such as having a baby or the death of a loved one can be very busy and emotionally demanding.

Government of Ireland

@coraven @otfrom sounds like Ireland and Germany are making the same mistakes, and just a few weeks after the EU had this great idea for digital sovereignty so users didn't have to rely on USA-jurisdiction companies like Apple, Google and Microsoft 🤦

@craignicol @otfrom
Possibly.

I have been watching that thread and I am disappointed that Germany is effectively going to exclude GraphineOS, Iodé, /e/, LineageOS and other degoogled phones.

As far as I know, Ireland has not shown their code so their is a chance that we will not.
I have email correspondce from the Minister for Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation back in September indicating that they may be open to doing using a more open standard.

@coraven @otfrom I hope they do. If they can show it can be done, it'll put pressure on other governments too.

@craignicol @otfrom
Specifically I asked the Minister about if would they require Google's Attestation on Android and if the app would be exclusive to Google Play and Apple App Store and therefore users be subject to their T&Cs.

Attestation - they recognised that Google Play is not mandated and open security standard were recommended.

Stores - 3rd party app store and direct distribution were not ruled out and were being considered.

Their position could change, but the consultation is vital.

@craignicol @coraven @otfrom Austria already has their wallet/eIDAS implemented since quite a while, and here the only way to get it onto a de-googled smartphone is afaik via the Aurora store. the alternative for users who dont want to use biometry is to use a FIDO key:
