anyone know of any good free checking accounts? my current checking account recently instituted a $5/month charge and this is as good a time as any to move off, but idk what my other options are.

my main considerations are:

- no fees
- no interest
- a website that doesn't suck

@trwnh how about a credit union?
@gummibunny i don't mind whether the option is or is not a credit union, but i was moreso looking for specific options/recommendations

@trwnh @gummibunny I'm happy with my credit union, no weird fees, good customer service. I think you'd have to check your area, like my credit union only accepts customers that live in my state. But I'm east coast USA, so probably differs by country.

The downside in my experience is CUs often lag behind the big banks when it comes to tech—may not have tap-to-pay yet, mine is only just getting Zelle.

@chris @gummibunny that's fine, tap to pay doesn't work for me because of safetynet / play integrity, and i don't use zelle. i just want a website that doesn't suck, bonus points if it doesn't require sms and supports at least totp
@trwnh FWIW I've been happy with my Ally Bank account
@starkos thank you, i'll look into them! is there anything in particular you like about them?
@trwnh They've been very no-nonsense. No fees, clean website, good mobile app (which works in Graphene), automatic overdraft transfers from savings
