bouriquet@relistan @jaykuo @lisamelton Bay of Pigs was a knee-jerk reaction to the fear of Russian-style communism taking hold in this hemisphere. An operation planned under Eisenhower and JF Dulles (Sec State) and CIA-run by Allen Dulles (the other Dulles brother). JF Dulles died before the invasion.
Dulles knew the attempt using mostly Cuban exiles and the CIA was weak. JFK refused heavy US military support to complete and it came to a halt. Dulles was asked to resign.
