@bweller @jaykuo Absolutely. I’ve read The Brothers by Stephen Kinzer. I recommend it if anyone wants to understand how the US kept trying for decades to screw over the world in order to help big corporations. It’s the root of a lot of the problems in many countries that were plagued by tinhorn dictators we helped.

@jaykuo but the Former US can and does cause a lot more than 6% (well, more like 4% now) of the world's problems, and is poised to cause an additional half-trillion dollar's worth next year.

@relistan @jaykuo @lisamelton Bay of Pigs was a knee-jerk reaction to the fear of Russian-style communism taking hold in this hemisphere. An operation planned under Eisenhower and JF Dulles (Sec State) and CIA-run by Allen Dulles (the other Dulles brother). JF Dulles died before the invasion.
Dulles knew the attempt using mostly Cuban exiles and the CIA was weak. JFK refused heavy US military support to complete and it came to a halt. Dulles was asked to resign.
