Aquarium successfully moved to the bedroom!

Here's a picture of it with the first live plants!

I don't plant them in the substrate, I use superglue to attach them to rocks and driftwood. It still looks natural and has the benefits of a planted tank. But it's easier to clean and rearrange the tank.

This method probably wouldn't work if you have delicate or fussy aquarium plants. I tend to cheat and go the same route that I do with houseplants: buy the sturdy and hard-to-kill ones. I think these are a java fern and two crypts. I also will get some anubias and some duckweed (white cloud minnows love the cover it gives them). These are all pretty forgiving plants.

After we get back from Thailand with the kittens in a few weeks, I'm going to get the tank heater and a foam cover for the filter intake, and by then it should be ready for some fish!!
