hi fedi can someone recommend me an app to play music by typing? I love typing and I never finished piano lessons as a kid and I think it would be really fun to use my typing keyboard as a music keyboard. I don't have any strong preferences for the note layout, as long as it works on qwerty and preferably on linux.

@nycki Do you mean something like https://alda.io/ or https://vmpk.sourceforge.io/ ? One of them'll probably get you something, though I'm sure that better organ-things exist.
Alda

Alda is a text-based programming language for music composition. It allows you to write and play back music using only a text editor and the command line.

@jcolag something more like the latter, yeah.

I'm currently knee-deep in writing my own quick and dirty javascript key-to-note generator and I'm at the part where I have to figure out a key map that feels right to me. I think I like the idea of keeping my hands on the qwerty homerow and deriving some sort of system around that, instead of emulating the white/black key layout of a piano (which would leave several gaps).

extremely beta demo of what I'm describing:

@nycki musescore does ... something like that. Though it might be more than you're looking for
