"You use the words experience and intelligence. And diplomacy, I know, and thoughtfulness. These are all oxymorons when it comes to Pete Hegseth. Pete Hegseth, you know, last year, I mean, a year and four months ago, he was a Fox host. I mean, there were rumors about him having a drinking problem. I mean, he has no experience."

"President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Pete Hegseth are stuck in the logic of escalation, according to which the feeling of defeat today can be reversed by doing the first thing that comes to mind tomorrow."

The Next Coup Attempt

And How to Stop It

Thinking about...

@wdlindsy

I think the heading already covers my expectations for what happens with the mid term elections. This.

My (rather subjective) impression (gathered from the media and Mastodon, go figure) is, though, that most US citizens are blissfully unaware that "elections will fix it all" might not fix it this time and that relying on the miracle of elections might not be enough this time.

Footnote: I am, though, totally open for US citizens explaining to me why I am wrong. (Actually I hope being wrong, since a world without a at least half rational government of the US is politically so much darker).

@glitzersachen @wdlindsy I don't think you are wrong. Many of us here in the US hope that elections are so one sided that not even this administration can ignore it without causing a major rift that could lead to civil war.

However, it is not beyond trump to try to swing elections and/or create an 'emergency' that woulld overtrun or cancel them. Again, I see this leading to lots of civil unrest.
