I'm sick of hearing politicians being interviewed referring to 'families' as if anyone single doesn't matter any more to them.
It's exclusive and patronising; and they should know better.

Very exclusionary. Very patronising.
@alexadeswift Indeed. Although I have siblings, I know there must be some people out there who are only children and never got married.
All those MPs' references to families - hard-working or otherwise - must be really insulting to them.
I disowned my family for the sake of my own sanity and safety, and am estranged from my spouse and child.
Also, my spouse and child are severely disabled so are not hard working, so yeah, this narrative is extraordinarily insulting .
@wood5y Yes, agree. Not least, because I always hear a subtle hint of "hard working, husband and wife, 2 kids" family. As if the world hasn't actually moved on since 1970.
It always seems to exclude anything that is not their wet dreams of nuclear families. Singles, single parents, and people in different types of relationships. All of whom are valid and worth fighting for.
And it always seems to be to exclude some section of people from help. I mean, if they cared about families, surely they would all be fighting to help refugee families (and others) as much as possible....
@wood5y You had it right. I merely expanded on my sense when I hear it.
At the least, they are excluding singles, as you said. But it feels exclusionary, because it is, and there are the undertones that I hear as well, at least from some people.
