#MASH on #war

Hawkeye: War isn't Hell. War is war, and Hell is Hell. And of the two, war is a lot worse.

Father Mulcahy: How do you figure, Hawkeye?

Hawkeye: Easy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?

Father Mulcahy: Sinners, I believe.

Hawkeye: Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell. War is chock full of them - little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for some of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander.

@SrRochardBunson one of the best scenes of all time

@SrRochardBunson

I've watched enough M*A*S*H to hear the actors read this script in my mind.

Now the theme song is stuck in my head.

@milagemayvary @SrRochardBunson very powerful/deep scene, but even thinking about the theme song makes me sleepy, worst then counting sheep.

Mash and Black Sheep Squadron, imo, are a select group of "war media" that's honest about its reality.

@SrRochardBunson I loved that show. We watched it every week. This is still correct and well said...I do wish it w as more integrated and funny, mostly because more people would have taken to those soap boxier episodes. I will always enjoy the show but some of it feels like punching down now I guess.
@SrRochardBunson No truer words ever spoken.

I remember that one. 🙂

Also:

“Politics is war by other means.”

“Throw a rock in the air, you’ll hit someone guilty.”

“The rain falls on the just and the unjust.”

@dpknauss @SrRochardBunson M*A*S*H is a fantastic show. I didn't know how great it was until watching it with my partner because she needs noise to sleep to.

The blend of comedy and poignancy in that show is so good

@SrRochardBunson

One of Hawkeye's best soliloquies.

@starraven for sure. Out of many great ones!
@SrRochardBunson To be fair, in christian Hell are also unbaptized innocent bystanders.
@lankohr
Depends on who you ask
@SrRochardBunson

@lankohr Yeah, I'm with
@MxSpoon

C.S. Lewis said it well, "the only people in hell would rather rule over their own hell than serve in heaven. Or more simply, the gates of hell are locked from the inside.

This is coming from a rabid antifascist #EXvangelical that still digs Jesus. Just not most Christians. 😅

@SrRochardBunson @MxSpoon I would prefer neither of that. Seems to me like "plague or cholera". I don't want to be a servant (slave), but also not reign a Hell.
@SrRochardBunson and it’s those who decide that there will be a war who should have to lead it, as in ancient times. Today (in most democracies) they hide in luxury refusing to even let their children go.
@SrRochardBunson Dock, the global majority is against all war, all killing, local majorities are swayed to support one aggression or another.
We need a global coalition against all war. A total end of all wars, end of all weapons which are starving little children, their mothers, fathers, grandparents, uncles and aunts. This brutalization occasionally results in violence of desperation as retribution; we the people of the world need justice done for all.
