The new CAD files RackRobotics released about the supposedly soon to ship Betta Wire are a bad late April fools joke. None of this stuff looks anywhere close to ready

There are so many bearings submerged that are in no way rated for it…
With lots and lots of abrasive metal oxide dust suspended in the water…

I see no problem there at all /s

Like literally just stainless LM10LUU on (maybe?) stainless round rails right under and around the cutting zone where all the EDM swarf lands on
There are major flaws on the shafts connecting the belt pulleys to the motors. Components placed inside each other, flanges rubbing on printed parts, finger couplings being made to take up axial and radial loads, belts being made to take up axial loads…

These gantry XY connectors unsuited and unmanufactureable. It isn’t clear if the are meant to be metal, in which case they are unmachineable, or plastic in which case they are extremely thin (0.9mm walls) with only 1.9mm holding the 10mm round rails on, printed threads in every orientation, and no clear print orientation.

With the 2.6k price tag they could technically afford to SLM metal 3D print them, but o do not think that is realistic or practical

The y axis is only 160mm long. Even with an extremely narrow toolhead (which is of course entirely missing from the design with seemingly no provisions for it) would reduce it to 100-120mm of travel. Depending on the guide plane distance most of that is lost for taper cutting, likely leaving only 5cm of working area with any taper cutting at all, and maybe 10cm with straight wire
@phos ? that could be printed...
@RueNahcMohr @phos but it will not hold very well.
@f4grx @phos If I knew a bit more about how it was used....
I like the linear bearing trap. concerned over the lack of compliant centering on it.
@phos but why! This is awful!
