Help!!! This is a cute little router right??

I'm showing it to Cyan and she says it's not cute!! How do I convince her it's cute? 😭😭

@lina cute little box
@lina Those are the ones with mips64 processor right?
@koakuma No, that one is MIPS32! This one is MIPS64~ ^^
@lina Ohhhh I have that exact model!
I should probably get into installing OpenBSD or other OS on it lol

@koakuma I never used this one because I realized they hadn't implemented the software(?) fastpath for... I think it was 4in6 tunneling? And that would've meant no line rate 1G routing for my internet...

The ER-X is more of an L3 switch in that regard and can handle the fastpath in some kind of configurable hardware thing including the 4in6. It was my main home router for many years until I moved and upgraded to 10G ^^

@lina I... bought it just because it is a MIPS and it is said that those boxes can be convinced into running a normal desktop Unix; I've never used it to actually route things around

I mean a gigabit router feels way too overkill when the ISP only gives some 20-ish Mbits/s

@koakuma I had gigabit at my last place and I have 10gig now so... ^^;;

But yes they can run normal Unix stuff! ^^

@lina oh I had one of these at one point
they’re very cute physically in person, more than you might think from photos
the software is much less so but that’s the ubiquiti tax
@lina Yeah, it's cute! Maybe making a cute smiley from the Ubiquiti logo would help πŸ€” /lh
@lina well its smol and cute compared to many. Maybe if it was pink and had rounder more friend shaped corners? /silly
@lina round the corners a bit (more) ig
@lina please tell her it is akin to a dachshund.
@lina the only thing not cute about it, is the X ...

@lina
It's in it's name -_-

I have one of them.

@lina
aww, it's so smol
@lina there is something seriously wrong with you

@lina EdgeRouter X <3

Ours has a big BlΓ₯haj sticker on it, might grab a picture later :)

@lina it’s cute. But very very unsecure by now probably 😳

@meowki Routers like this one don't really get remote security vulns very often. There isn't much attack surface pre authentication.

It's not like consumer routers that have a ton of services and questionable automatic firmware update and phone home features and messy web APIs and all that.

@lina Glad to hear that. My mum still has one of these puppies running!
@lina have a read of the offload driver and neither of you will think it’s cute anymore
@lina I mean, routers have fur on them, but it's rare that people can see it, the computer has to be facing just the right way. So yeah, probably that's why haha
@lina Is it a router or a switch? Looks more like a switch. Can it do vlans? It has 1 POE port, which is impressive.
@mvilain It's a router and it runs Linux. Yes it can do vlans and all that ^^
@lina the brand itself was named "router",,, i think it was switch cmiiw
