this paper came up in my feed but it's not me who's an author
@regehr just steal all the cred from your son, he doesn't count for csrankings
@regehr it is bullshit that this is legit the kind of thing csrankings incentivizes
@ricci @regehr I've never quite understood why no one's overthrown csrankings. like is it the name that's keeping it dominant? or that people agree with the incentive structure it offers? or????

@mcnuttandrew @regehr well for one thing you'd have to start from scratch because it uses a no-derivatives license

@ricci @mcnuttandrew well, starting from scratch is a whole lot easier than it used to be.

as far as I can tell, the things that are actually missing here are (1) an idea for what to replace csrankings with and (2) a years-long commitment to maintaining whatever that is

@ricci @mcnuttandrew anyone who has got both of those things should simply step up
@regehr @mcnuttandrew just ask chatgpt to rank them, we'll end up with some new universities to boot
@ricci @regehr no derivatives license is a shocker / maybe not a shocker
@mcnuttandrew @regehr well, I think it's intended to prevent people from just making shit that puts themselves on top, so, fair
