The date of its founding is unknown. Originally a Yakushido hall, the temple was rebuilt in 1670 by the monk Tetsugen Doko & renamed Zuiryuji. It became a base for the propagation of Obaku Buddhism in Osaka & is commonly referred to as Tetsugenji.
