An astrophysics professor at Penn State noticed half her 300 students were skipping class.

Her solution: turn the lectures into a video game where players explore Mars, other planets, and galaxies while learning astronomy.

Students were skipping my astrophysics class to play video games – so I turned the class itself into a video game

With college students less likely to read through a full textbook than they once were, video games can help keep them engaged.

@TheConversationUS Great to see this finally happening more. I did this a decade ago as already then students were not interested in attenuating lectures. Sadly the uni I was at was not ready to accept that games had a place in learning.
@TheConversationUS
I have run a high school class for years where we play Kerbal Space Program.

@TheConversationUS Why does the human race need astrophysicists who couldn't turn up to class and do the WORK of learning their discipline?

Fail them on attendance, let them learn the lesson that the world does not exist to pander to THEIR preferences. The humiliation, and reality check will make them better people.

No wonder America is America.
