AP: A Nebraska hospital in peril shows how a Republican-led rural health fund is coming up short

"...Hundreds of rural hospitals across the country are facing closures after years of funding problems. The issue was compounded last summer by the Trump administration's massive cuts to Medicaid, the government's safety net for low-income Americans, whose reimbursements have long helped hospitals meet their bottom lines...."

A Nebraska hospital in peril shows how a Republican-led rural health fund is coming up short

It's a problem that millions of Americans in rural areas are awakening to as they realize there's no windfall coming for the vulnerable hospitals near their homes.

@ai6yr This is on top of states that already want to repeal the ACA.

Nebraska has about 25% of its population either using the ACA or Medicare

By denying, reducing or reducing reimbursement means that those rural hospitals which were already on the brink, now get faced with a doom loop

1) Rural hospitals finances are iffy to start
2) States GQP politicians reduces eligible coverage
3) GQP kills off or reduces to the point of ineffective programs aimed at social determinate of health like SNAP, fluoride, and mandatory vaccines
4) People without insurance go to the rural hospital ER since they lack primary care
5) Even well run ER's may not make money and thus they have an ER without a reimbursable revenue stream
6) Hospital cuts services to the bone and wages resulting in less services and staff flee for greener pastures and better working conditions
7) Counties go bankrupt trying to keep the local hospital open or they simply fail
8) People now move to the next closest rural hospital and repeat
