Unlike the HelloBirdie cam (which I’m taking a hiatus from), the Anker Eufy SoloCam S340 is actually FCC registered! So this gives it a big step up from the birdie cam. The FCC report has pictures of the insides, so I can tell the case and the camera housing seem to be a snap together (I hope it’s not glued). Also, I could find no external screws, so that’s big clue there
Got the camera charged up and brought the unit out of sleep. It emits an annoying loud, high pitched chirp to let you know it’s in network config mode. If it doesn’t connect, a friendly voice tells you that there was an issue.
In order to connect, you’re supposed to use the Eufy app, which I haven’t loaded yet, and follow the directions from it. My guess it uses a QR code like the birdie cam. Plus side, the app privacy isn’t too bad, it collects a bunch, but doesn’t link to you for most of it
So while I’m trying to to non-destructively open the case, I figured I’d try a few things:
The USB-C connector is for charging only. When I plug it into my computer, there’s nothing detected.
I tried hitting the “sync” button on the camera. As mentioned, it causes the camera wake up, but unlike the birdie cam, it doesn’t create an AP point.
I also tried the QR code I have for the birdie cam, but no dice. Was hoping not to have to load another app
