In #BC the province passed #DRIPA, a law implementing the #UN's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (#UNDRIP or #DOTROIP.) It came into effect in 2019 and IS THE LAW.

Possibly in response, the parliament of #Canada passed the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (#UNDA) in 2021, and IS THE LAW. In particular, Article 19 requires full, prior, and informed consent on legislation or policy which affects them.

Article 19

States shall consult and cooperate in good faith with the indigenous peoples concerned through their own representative institutions in order to obtain their free, prior and informed consent before adopting and implementing legislative or administrative measures that may affect them.
