Good representation of the inside of my brain

@TheBreadmonkey I am a drummer and I can confirm that if you start to think about what you're doing in any sort of detail it all rapidly falls to pieces
@pikesley @TheBreadmonkey Ex-drummer (is anyone ever really an ex-drummer?) - can confirm. Drumming is like that bumblebee myth about flying - it's only possible because nobody has told us we can't.

@GlasWolf

Was my experience. I drummed because nobody told me I couldn’t. And I worshiped Buddy Rich. His big band was awesome (using the word properly).

@pikesley @TheBreadmonkey

years ago read about a neuroimaging study done on drummers and basically, y’all rewire your brains in ways that kinda obliterate that whole “left brain vs right brain” shtick:

“Neuroscience and Music: Insights from Drummers’ Brains”
Psychology Today https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-asymmetric-brain/201912/neuroscience-and-music-insights-drummers-brains

you know, seeing how primates use their limbs, maybe it’s an evolutionary skill we forgot on our way to being humans?

anyways, to me drummers brains are just bananas.

Parents might not be happy if their kids pick up the drums, but a new study shows that playing the drums has a profound effect on the brain.

@blogdiva my partner and best friend are both drummers, and my best friend recently realised that all of her closest friends (5/6 folk) have partners who are also drummers lol, there is definitely something interesting about them imo 🤣
@sue @blogdiva Muppet character “Animal” was a reasonably accurate depiction of the type, it turns out.
@cmdrmoto @blogdiva can confirm after almost 25 years of being driven to distraction by this

@blogdiva @DziadekMick @GlasWolf @pikesley @TheBreadmonkey Re: "to me drummers brains are just bananas"

Well, I'm a drummer and I can assure that my brain isn't just bananas - there are other fruit-like substances in there, too.

I also kind of disagree about not thinking - just that it's thinking more in sounds and sensations, and, ideally, not in words at all. Words in your head mess up the flow.
