Trump Says the U.S. Can't Pay for Healthcare or Daycare, Only War - Lemmy.World

Well it looks like I’m not going to be able to pay my taxes this year.

I hear so many people make that statement. I realize most are just making a flippant “joke”.

Not paying your taxes, assuming you owe any federal taxes, is a recipe for a whole heap of trouble and expensive if you’re working class. This isn’t VISA where you can basically just ignore the debt for X number of years and then you’re in the clear. The federal government has considerably more options for getting the money owed.

government can’t come for you if your tear it down and build a new one
And unicorns can’t fart if you steal their butts!

Yeah its a good thing that never in history have governments, sometimes of the largest economies and some the most capable of projecting force, its a good thing that never in history have governments collapsed, been replaced whole cloth.

Its a good thing thats never happened, otherwise your sarcasm could be mistaken for a deep, toxic, counter productive cynicism.

I’m curious, which historical events are you referring to?
China does it ever couple hundred years, the Roman Empire by its end in the 1400s had been effectively reorganized dozens of times and could hardly be considered the same state, Britain and France more or less collapsed to their core territories by the 60s, the Spanish and Portuguese Empires imploded economically before being picked apart by the Dutch and newly independent colonies. I could go on but those are the big ones where the empires in question had notable territory loss or effectively reorganized in totality, there’s a couple smaller examples like with Sweden becoming Insular or how Islam transitioned from an imperial institution in a lot of ways into a religious one, but those examples rarely are as impressive or went on for centuries without any real turning points.
That’s so many more than I expected! I really thought op was referencing one specific event rather than something that has happened so many times throughout history.
