Macs of that era also have decent audio system. E.g. my Late 2011 MacBook Pro have and optical drive a nice 17" screen, speakers that are pointed upwards and not into the table and even a subwoofer (albeit it's still pretty small of course, being built into the laptop). And other than broadcom wireless adapter that requires a binary driver (there is a truly open one, but it doesn't work too well), it plays nicely with linux.
It has an early quad core i7, 16 gigs of RAM and two internal SATA connectors and sometimes I really want to turn it into a server, but OMG — that display, that audio, when it comes to watching movies in bed it's unrivalled
