I deleted 3000 words from my thesis today, it was scary but it needed to be done! #PhDLife

@SeaFury I had to cut a whole chapter of my PhD thesis, a huge amount of work that would have made the thesis stronger. But it would have made it too long and I wouldn't have been able to finish in time. I passed with no corrections anyway. The hard cuts are worth it; part of what they want to see is that you can correctly manage the scope. You got this 💪

PS: pretty sure the reason I missed out on a distinction for my MA was that it was too long. Cuts are hard, but worth it.

@Rhube It is hard for me because I have worked in this area for more than 10 years, the PhD was much later, so I have so much expertise. I have to keep to a narrative, what was written did not fit, so I CUT!
@SeaFury As I understand it, this is a lot of what they want to see: that you can channel your understanding into a cohesive and clear longform written argument, without becoming rambling or losing focus. It's an uncommon skill, which is why proving you can do it is so hard 😣
