Why did the right wing win the #socialmedia popularity wars?

My theory is simple: The basic skill to succeed in an authoritarian system, is to figure out what the ruler likes.

The right wing has much more authoritarians than the left (at least here in the West), and with the new automated ruler computer of the #algorithm in place, these skills dominated.

The incentives of #bigtech #platforms favour something else than what we need. We will never win there. #fediverse is our only hope.

Yes. Plus, that we react so strongly to hatred and fear, two emotions that are easy to convey via media and easy to amplify via algorithms.

Fascism is all about hatred towards and fear of the "others". We, the people, are powerless and thus need the supposedly strong and all-powerful leaders which are our only hope to protect us from those others.

Sadly this fascist message works devastatingly well and social media makes it easier than ever to distribute it.

@pplagonzes Incentives always guide the outcomes.

That’s why the big tech & right wing lies are so frustrating. They put in the incentive to do the wrong thing, but promise that somehow people will do the right thing, and act surprised when they don’t!
