finding dragons below waterfall
we say to ourselves how tragedy
comes for those who made the swim
but on success looked back, regret
re-engaging endless current

we do not find them long past dusk
breathing life to friend’s ascent
we lament their failure to succeed
and on our own continue
never checking past our shoulders
