this entire meeting
could have been an email
but no, you want faces
right in front of you
and breakfast

you say two birds, one stone
I say with our new gravitic drive
we could hop out to the asteroids
grab a really nice rock
and get them all

Of course my search history is uh-oh. I write. Today, for example:

1) Prion disease
2) Butter chemistry and physical properties
3) City mythologies
4) Pet poison control
5) Magnet sequencing for acceleration
6) Rugby
7) Fracture propagation
8) Embryo freezing
9) Air mixes by depth

...and so on. Meanwhile, teaching and cooking on the evening led to more writing, and now it's nap time.

half our back-country road lays in bunkerage
feed-line to jenny for when power drops
migraine telling me, accurate to six minutes
when the power has dropped, exhaust
reaping through hollows under layer

until economies of fail prevent refueling
solar reserve batteries never installed
while freezers full of starvation prevention
become less stable, root cellars cleaned
standing in for what hunger remembers

Survive On Less

they said to fill myself with hope
all I had was rice and beans
a complete protein perhaps
but standing against poverty
slightly less leverage than I’d ask

each picking away at home
a special dispensation
a high fructose intervention
a dream that isn’t dreaming
a bottom-folk feeding

told hope was in the teaching
the breach of learn-to-savor
came in many flavors
each hope at gaining favor
empty of all meaning

a thermal printer informing
we have three (215) items
in its holding bay

its taupe enamel surface
reflects hopes misplaced
no user serviceable parts
(or holding bay) inside
number incrementing up

slipping forces twixt forces
skimming dip to dip, skip to skip

creeps ‘cross grav-mesh backdrop
nods to reaction mass, instead

you can get there by coffee
if you’re awake enough

battle raging all around, I explain
how I already had naked, everyone
has naked, it’s just under stuff

get your goddamned uniform on
but my uniform is gone in flame
what remains is all of me
spilling mud epiphany

pretending to redirect my prey drive
I grab a camera going out the door
this is merely an excuse for later
in case I break an ankle cornering

daffodil in springtime exultation
violet in out-of-focus turmoil
magnolia at tree-line on flyby
rabbits scream when you catch ‘em

developing images in black and white
oryctolagus cuniculus emerges, biting
but I’ve set my laptop down again
my transformation upon me
