Has anyone seen old Sony audio equipment with a very dim LED backlight on the LCD front display? I want to know if this is a common problem before I start tearing apart this thing I got from the thrift shop #askfedi #sony

(I pulled the maintenance manual on it, it isn’t a VFD)

Is it really LED or vacuum fluorescent display? My Sony receiver from 1996 has that problem but it’s definitely not LED.

@HopelessDemigod surprisingly, the maintenance manual is on the first page of results when searching for the model number, and it has full circuit schematics. The backlight comprises two LEDs, a transistor to do dimming, and various pullup / pulldown resistors. Looks like I need to pop the cover and try to identify/test each component and soldering joint. Maybe I’m lucky and everything is still through-hole
