Brokar@kottke Why you ask? Because after 50 years other countries like China and India are now pursuing space exploration and the USA simply dropped the ball. They're now seeing everyone stepping up.
China is now building their own microchips, building their own satellite network, building their own space station and possibly go to the moon and Mars also. Nobody needs the USA anymore for this.
This is the desperate attempt of the USA to still sound important. And nobody cares.
