A black spot in the middle of a chitting potato. Dont plant? Any of the variety? Any of the delivery?

@clew

That sounds like a question for the company supplying them, and your local extension agent / ag university.

Could be from bad nutrition during tuber formation, could be a nasty that'll live as spores in the soil for years.

Of course I should ask the grower! Thanks.

😬

(I know that's not helpful.)

good to have one’s urgency calibrated, y’know?

Years ago, I saw that in a book on potatoes but I can't remember what it is.

It could be growing stress. Someone recommended I write the grower, so I’ve done that.

As you probably saw, I tagged someone in Ireland who knows spuds. Hopefully, he might have some idea what this is.

@psneeze

@scandigonian @clew It's most likely blackheart. That sounds more serious than it is. It's caused by a lack of oxygen in storage or in waterlogged fields.

That said, you want your seed stock to be 100% so contact the vendor. I'm sure they'll replace them to be on the safe side.

Go raibh maith 'ad, Jim!

@clew

Thank you! I have contacted the source grower, and also now I have a word to look up.
