#Seattle specific for food gardeners and would-be gardeners; the first of the two annual Tilth start sales, tomorrow (2026/03/21). Edible plants, though IME both sales have all kinds of plants, we just have a long planting season.

The Rainier site is delightful, the springtime energy is great. Note to self: go with a list and a realistic budget of what you have SPACE for. There's always one more fascinating little plant...

More garden bounty for tea tonight - steamed beetroot, kale, purple broccoli, and leeks all from the garden, along with boiled eggs from our chickens, and couscous with celery from the small people's garden.

Any favorite tricks for scrubbing small potatoes? I am down to the bottom of the barrel and they are very tedious. Grab with an old dish towel? Shake in a bag? (With?)

I need a root washer, and until then I am the root washer.

There's still some food coming from the garden, and the chickens have rebooted.

Things might be slowing down, but we still have the brassicas and some other hardy beasts growing. Aside from the romanescu, we have purple broccoli, carrots, beetroot, kale, and some huge nasturtiums to feed us.

This week I'll plant the broad bean seeds, onions, shallots, and garlic. That should give us an early start for next year.

Carrots are looking good. Hopefully enough to last until Christmas. I might adjust the planting plan for next year and include some parsnips as well, I think.

That's the green tomatoes sorted. Next, pumpkin chutney when the jars arrive.

#gardening report: Garlics arrived!
Russian Red and California Early. These go into the garage until at least the last week of Oct, maybe later, depending on weather and chores. #garlic #GrowFood #GrowOwnFood

Home grown potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, leeks, and some very chonky looking baby corn. The fundament of a nice meal with some chickpeas, and crusty homemade seeded baguettes. It's nice to think almost everything here came from the garden (I was too late for onions and garlic this year). Next year, I aim to grow it all.

I may have accidentally veganed the whole thing, which is fine by me.

The garden has entered tomato harvest season. Some will be sauce, some will be eaten fresh, some will be dried and stored in olive oil.
