iPhone Air is the best iPhone since iPhone X which was the best since the original.

Your mileage may vary and if you’re into photography the calculus is probably different. But this thing is svelte, powerful, and sexy.

I’ve named mine Sulu.

@Gte It's good (probably the best current iPhone) but it is just too large. Previously we joked about how you can't reach the top-left w/ your thumb anymore, but w/ the Air I can hardly reach the bottom-left w/ the thumb.
@helge Super fair! I agree. It hits the weight and thinness where I’d want it. The screen is great for reading but in terms of reaching stuff it’s still a stretch.
@Gte It's pretty heavy, significantly more than the Mini despite being so thin. But acceptable, quite balanced. The size is the bigger issue for me. Like hitting Home in the tab bar of Ivory is possible single handedly, but it's edgy.
@helge @Gte i've got an idea
@joe @Gte That would be cool 😂 But I suppose IBM has a patent on the knob?
@helge @joe @Gte I think that one just expired last year or that before.
Someone suggested that this is the reason ThinkPads don't sport them anymore.
@krono @helge @Gte i think there's plenty of room for innovation in the "home-row-accessible pointer control" space still out there. trackpoints are nice but it does suck to lose the proportional acceleration you get with mouses and touchpads. i wonder if a trackpoint-sized touchpad or trackball would be usable
@joe @helge @Gte Interesting.
Or Optimus-Style "every key is a touchpad"
@Gte I love the feel of the Air. I couldn’t commit to the size.
@agiletortoise I do wish they’d give us smaller screens again. I don’t mean to imply it’s the best phone that could ever be.
@Gte Agree 100%. And the camera is solid. I am discriminating enough to only need one lens. Move around. Be creative. 😜
@Gte Oh, really happy to hear you say that. I’m still using my XS, in part because I don’t think I want anything bigger.
@Gte The iPhone Air is the best iPhone in years.. since the iPhone 5s. Fight me!
@markm68k Not gonna fight you! It is pretty great. Your faves may differ from mine but I dig it.

@Gte Haha.. fine.

I have a pathological fondness for Touch ID that I don’t have with Face ID.

@markm68k Ah. That’s understandable for sure. I’ve a weird affection for stuff that’s “weird” in some way. I dig the Trash Can. The OG Air. I’m not trying to be contrarian with it. It’s just what I get excited about. New takes that shake things up a bit.

@Gte Same! I still have a Trash Can and my main Mac is an M1 Air because it’s a great Mac for me, and I believe the camera notch was a poor design choice.

It all comes back to me missing Steve.

Edit: oops!

@markm68k Maybe it’s not obvious because the notch is really big for what it is, but there is no Mac that has Face ID. Even the ones with a notch all have Touch ID 😊

@tuomas_h Of course you’re right. I knew that. 🤦‍♂️

Thanks for the correction. 🙃

@Gte only two phones have gotten constant comments for me - the iPhone mini and the iPhone air
@Gte Svelte, Powerful, and Sexy are the three key sections of my résumé.

@Gte played with it for a bit yesterday at the Store while I was waiting for my 13 Pro battery to be replaced.

It’s really, really nice, I agree. But as already pointed out by others, it’s too big. A smaller version would be perfect (but I’m quite sure the size is a direct consequence of the battery).

It’s not for me, though, couldn’t do without the Pro(s) cameras.

@Gte I held one for the first time in an Apple Store last week and was very surprised at how nice it felt, given how little interest I have in owning one
@Gte Gotta say I'm looking forward to the 2Air2Folderous...
