This is my second "holy shit" of the day.
Apparently #LinkedIn if silently collecting data on every extension you use every time you visit the site. Which it then uploads, with your identity attached to it.
This is absolutely horrifying. Literally, people should go to jail over this.

LinkedIn Is Illegally Searching Your Computer

Microsoft is running one of the largest corporate espionage operations in modern history. Every time any of LinkedIn’s one billion users visits linkedin.com, hidden code searches their computer for installed software, collects the results, and transmits them to LinkedIn’s servers and to third-party companies including an American-Israeli cybersecurity firm. The user is never asked. Never told. LinkedIn’s privacy policy does not mention it. Because LinkedIn knows each user’s real name, employer, and job title, it is not searching anonymous visitors. It is searching identified people at identified companies. Millions of companies. Every day. All over the world.

@jik this is insane. I had no idea about it! It seems it’s for Chrome extensions only, though?

More reasons to ditch all Google-related products.

@Meznor Yes, the data collection only happens on Chromium-based browsers, i.e., browsers that can run Chrome extensions from the Chrome web store.
@jik @Meznor Feeling disgusted by this egregious behavior yet relieved I refused to use Chrome all these years.
@doctorlaura @jik YES! I only fully de-googled a couple years ago and I’m so glad I did. I’m glad I was historically a Firefox user (and didn’t use extensions except adblockers). Now it’s duckduckgo all the way.
