Australia to crack down on gambling ads after years of criticism

'"Today it's gambling advertising, tomorrow it's alcohol, then it's sugary drinks, fast food, critical minerals and who knows what else comes next," chief executive [of the Australian gambling industry peak organization] Kai Cantwell said.'

Hang on Cantwell, this is all good stuff. You've talked me in to it!

Australia to crack down on gambling ads after years of criticism

Australians lose more money to gambling, per capita, than anywhere else in the world.

Of course the gambling industry is acting all outraged, but the actual so-called "crack down" is weak as...well, something metaphorically weak.

They're probably privately fairly happy with how this ended up.

'Gambling ads will be banned from radio during school pick-up and drop-off times' lol

@stacey_campbell and they can only run ads every 20 minutes in prime time. Poor little things.
@stacey_campbell "as weak as #Albo" is the phrase I believe you're seeking.

@stacey_campbell

Allow gambling, but tax profit at 100%, its just for funnsies after all. Also limit salaries to the average industrial wage.

@stacey_campbell to Cantwell: Don't you threaten me with a good time!

@stacey_campbell

It's not if that asshat didn't have a policy that all of Parliament backed ... Then he decided not to, because the big scary Australian hotel association got to him
