Listen. Listen. Come here.

When you're trying to do a quick and simple sewing project maybe - just maybe - don't do it in a black and white print fabric that you can't stand to see interrupted by a line of topstitching. Just saying.

**

This toot is sponsored by Winslow Culottes which is a simple and satisfying pattern with an absolutely punishing hem you don't want to be doing by hand.

Which I'm currently doing by hand.

This could have been, after pressing, about 15 minutes on the machine.

But no.

Black thread stands out too much against the white parts of the print; white thread is an eyesore on the black parts.

Here I am doing an invisible stitch by hand and hating myself.

They're gonna be so beautiful, I promise myself, so good. In about 2h of hand stitching. Instead of 15 mins on the machine. But it's fine

With Celine Dion back on tour here's my hemming to the tune of "When I need you"

"Miles and miles of endless pant hems ahead us
A single toot can't tell the pain in my wrist
But you know I won't be hemming forever
It's cold out, but hold out, and hem like I do" 🎢

"When I need pants
I just close my eyes and I groan loud
All that I want to make for myself now
Is only a project away"

I'm absolutely overwhelmed by my sewing queue, and my own ambitions, so trying to progress three projects at once, and failing. So here's some photos of my finished Winslows.

Check out that hem.

Was it a royal pain in the arse? Oh yes. Is it absolutely superb? Oh, oh yes.

Also check out that zipper! And hey, pockets!

The pockets are understiched, which couldn't be avoided. Understiching is not visible on the outside. Still, it shows what topstitching would have looked like if I didn't bother with a fussy finish.

It would have looked BAD.

@crowbriarhexe I wish there was some sort of a bottom to sewing puns, but I'm pretty sure when we run out we can Weave another πŸ˜‰
@jjcelery πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ I’m worried if we keep Running with this our Interface with reality will Warp πŸ˜…
@jjcelery

Sounds like some of my custom shirts my wife made.
@ferricoxide she must love you A LOT
@jjcelery @ferricoxide I do. His closet is a freaking rainbow of dress shirts in funky prints with french cuffs and perfectly lined up pockets. heh.
@angldst @jjcelery

You're also stubborn when presented with a challenge of interest (don't ask about her one Christmas gift). So, there's that. ;)
@ferricoxide @angldst all Christmas gifts start being made with love, but end being made with spite πŸ˜–
@jjcelery omg that eyetwitch πŸ˜…
@crowbriarhexe it's an excellent emoji and I applaud my instance admins for providing it to me for occasions just as this πŸ˜‚
@jjcelery 'quick and simple' are the famous last words, the magic spell that opens up a rabbit hole on a flat spot where a second before there wasn't even a hint of it. It's the Macbeth in the world of projects, any projects.
@TazPoltorak this toot is so good I read it out loud to Himself. He laughed a little too hard πŸ₯²πŸ™ƒ
@jjcelery It's true and I know it from experience of saying it outloud; if anything ever seems such, it becomes the opposite. I am glad you both found it entertaining, and the laughter definitely comes from experience
