Good work! I cancelled my prime subscription and have not ordered anything from Amazon 2 months ago. When my current sub time ends in October I plan to also delete my account.
Alternatives please.

What’s that? Become a pirate?
Become a parrot
Then befriend a pirate
And replaced it with what?
A shop 1,6km away from my house

That’s a big-ass shop.

When I lived in Japan it was easy to kill my Amazon account because of a little site called Rakuten. Basically, Japanese Amazon.

Now I live in the EU, and Rakuten sellers do not ship outside of Japan. There’s suppose to be a global shipment service, but it’s limited, shipping costs are high, and I cannot get them to confirm my address either way. So I’m having to rely on Amazon again until I can find a like marketplace website that is based in Europe.

Glad to inform you that these days many Rakuten Sellers just use it as a second front-end. Logistics are handled by Amazon, often the package is Amazon wrapped. Not all, but based on my sample around 2/3.

In the last couple of years I started getting those. But not that frequently.

You can’t know for sure until you buy something. Some sellers say your order “may” be fulfilled by Amazon.

until I can find a like marketplace website that is based in Europe.

Have you tried Galaxus yet? It’s been my go-to since culling my Amazon account in early 2025.

So I’m having to rely on Amazon again

Nahhh friend. I think people in this thread are proving that you don’t.

I’ve stopped buying at Amazon a good while ago, I find most of what I need in smaller European web stores, I’ll buy computer, household, garden and farm stuff mostly. Also, small local shops around here will order stuff they don’t have in stock.
This reminds me. Where do you guys buy stuff like accessories for less known devices, e.g., retro handhelds? I buy everything on my local marketplaces, but these I can only find on Amazon or Temu/AliExpress. Any recommendations?
ebay existed when amazon was a bookstore, i still use it…
Dammit when I do stuff like this I always forget to scream it from the rooftops for approval.
Please remember for next time, because clearly we want to celebrate these moments together!
Better late then never my friend! I got rid of mine about 10 years ago. If a product only exists on Amazon, then I don’t want it

It’s genuinely surprising how you just don’t have to use it and it’s not a problem. The closest I’ve come is ordering something from an individual and it comes in an amazon box

It feels like you’d miss it but it you just try to find an alternative or wait a week, either you’ll find your alternative or more often even realise you never needed the thing in the first place.

And for anyone who is like “but I CAN’T get this one thing that I NEED anywhere else” I believe you. So just get that one thing from amazon and try your best to find everything else from another source.

You aren’t helpless.

Congratulations, seriously.

I stopped using mine years ago but still got a monthly “bill” of $0.00 for aws services for some reason.

I’m happy to report I’ve finally fully deleted my account. I feel so light. 🥰

I have one remaining but have deleted almost everything. My monthly cost is like 30 cents. :)
What’s the European alternative?
just out of curiosity, why does there need to be a marketplace? there are plenty of stores everywhere and 99% are online. i live in a small ass country and I’ve never had to use amazon. i just type the item name in a search engine followed by “price” in my language and it hasn’t failed. but maybe my needs aren’t specific enough?
It’s almost always possible to find anything amazon offers on other european stores. It’s not a one-stop-for-all, but that’s an unnecessary convenience.
I salute you, brave frog/toad! I’ve been working up the courage for years… Shameful.
