Finished reading _Smilla's Sense of Snow_ by Peter Høeg.
Loved it. Not only a whodunnit but an even stronger whydoit? Right until the end I was left wondering "What is in Greenland?!" Smilla is the character up to the task for finding out.

The depth of Smilla's backstory is fantastic. I'm not at all interested in seeing the movie: I've formed an image of her in my mind, and so much of the pleasure of the book is in her inner dialogue which I imagine would be lost on the screen.
It will definitely rank as one of my favourites of 2026.
