What so-called "AI" is not and will never be:
- ethical
- explainable
- safe
- democratic
- good
- in the public interest
- transformative
- emancipatory

edit: + feminist + sustainable + reasoning + sentient + open-source + accountable + for the people + liberatory

Please add to the list, I am sure I have forgotten some of the "feel-good" labels.

I am so fed up with people who insist on their illusions, who insist on [fill in] "AI" while refusing to talk about how "AI" works and its impact.

oh, "sustainable" also comes up occasionally, and cynically...
@alineblankertz both environmentally and socially

@alineblankertz

- free / libre / open source (at least the LLMs)

and relatedly

- user-serviceable

@alineblankertz maybe fountainhead of knowledge and or knowledge contributor.

Missing the right English terms for people becoming less educated and missing the skills of learning how to learn. Maybe you have a suggestion.

@alineblankertz

Have they tried marketing AI as a gluten-free yet? At least for once they wouldn't be lying.

@Mikal
oh yeah, or vegan (though obviously not plant-based!) or sugar-free/low-fat
@alineblankertz
efficient
@taaldader @alineblankertz
Deterministic
Predictable
Reproducible
Dependable
Adding new information
Better than average
Able to reason
Able to discern
@alineblankertz It's also neither artificial nor intelligent
@vronimus_ironimus @alineblankertz "artificial" is the one thing, I'd say, is accurate. These models don't grow on trees 😉
@claudius They don't. But they rely on the labor of people, the children working in mines for hardware, the people in the chip factories, the people sorting and labeling data, the artists work they stole from.

@alineblankertz

- feminist

seems to be missing...

@malteengeler
Yesss absolutely. Same despicable category as emancipatory
Malte Engeler (@[email protected])

"Using AI for activism is tempting, in social movements as well as in election campaigns. You may already be doing it! But are you sure you’re harnessing its full potential?" I am not using it for my activism at all. So yes, I am using its "full potential". What an utterly disappointing piece from "transform! europe" 😫 https://transform-network.net/publication/ai-for-radicals/

Legal.Social

@jk
That’s an interesting one. I wonder if “socialist AI” is an oxymoron/self-contradiction in the same way as the others. If I were using “socialism” as a positive description of a postcapitalist future, then “AI” cannot be in it. But I think we should not deny the risks of authoritarian socialist scenarios which are compatible with certain forms of “AI”. (But “”AI” is inevitable” is an incoherent argument for “socialist AI”.)

@malteengeler

@alineblankertz I'd tentatively add "compliant". It's sort of covered by "safe" already, but I feel compliant hits it home for some otherwise thrilled C suites who should think about whether they really want to sign off a probabilistic machine. (Most don't tbf, human in the loop yada yada)
@alineblankertz accountable and sovereign?
@eliza
Yesss! I was thinking about sovereign…and I was really unsure what sovereign means - if it means empowering nation states, “AI” does a pretty good job. So maybe subsuming sovereign under feel-good labels gives it too much credit? At least considering how the term is being used right now in mainstream discourse.
@alineblankertz feel-good for whom, I guess :D but yes, definitely an edge case
Hey @VeithYaeger
I'm happy if my anti-AI sticker is reshared, but please add (human written) alttext.
@PaulaToThePeople sure, you are right! I had it and couldn't find the author. So gorge!😍 Thank you for telling 😃
@alineblankertz I forgot the most obvious thing: "legally compliant"!
