φ@[email protected] Because it has one of the best Japanese input capability in the market today in 2026! Gboard sucks because it's eurocentric and has no support for Japanese dictionary imports, and the former best input for Japanese on an Android Device: Google 日本語入力, is discontinued.
FUTO is not only has full on-going support, but it's also very privacy minded too! With these reasons, picking FUTO as the first choice for Japanese input on a given mobile device is a no-brainer.

@rio fair but also i feel the need to point out that FUTO is a scam organization that does not actually finance projects beyond what makes them able to brag about doing so , and also they are associated with known hateful people and projects

@[email protected] In my experience, FUTO is a good organization and I do not believe FUTO is associated with any hateful people and projects at all. I have contributed to the FUTO project in the past and they were all very nice to me.

You may not like FUTO, but as a Japanese language user, I am extremely grateful for their work because without them, I literally cannot type my own language without submitting to Gboard.
