Maybe we should just not name things after people

I guarantee in 100 years most of us alive today are gonna be considered cringe as fuck and regressive

@Elizafox we have a pretty flawed desire and expectation of heroic figures that also cannot stand how we broadly judge individuals who are universally flawed (for whatever outcome).

That’s not an apologism for “well, judged against their times…” because in almost every single era you can find people developed enough to say “…hey yo, that’s fucked up” but more along the lines of what you say - there are childish notions of heroes we have, and we probably need to grow the fuck up and recognize the threads of each journey rather than looking for specific gods above judgement to model ourselves on.

And agreed. There are many things I look at and think “we’re going to be seen as so wrong about this.” Animal cognition and treatment, for an example.

@NullNowhere people aren’t gonna like this one but like if we get genAI ever, actual genAI, our attitudes are gonna look just as outdated as the Luddites. The Luddites had actual grievances but look what history has done to them by and large.

I accept that’s how we are gonna look even if we all have good intentions and genuinely good reasons to hate LLMs. History does not do nuance.
