I picked up an NVME 2280 SSD for my RaspberryPi 4B, because I could have sworn that was the kind that fit into its case. Turns out I was wrong, the hat in the case only takes SATA. How did I get that wrong? I read online that the Pi works with NVME so I guess I need a new case.

I'm completely confused. The web page for the case/hat I have says "the adapter board is compatible solely with M.2 SATA SSD 2280 and does not support NVME SSD or NGFF SSD".

Yet the case has the same connector slot as the NVME SSD on this page:

@YurkshireLad looking at the product page, it seems to be an Raspberry Pi 4 case. While it the Pi 4 does supports NVMe(PCIe). You have to use a Compute Module 4, or saw off the USB & Ethernet ports of a Pi 4 and solder an NVMe connector on.

Furthermore the M.2 connector has multiple Keys
There's the A, B, E & M Keys as well as combinations with A & E and B & M Keys.
But even if tour Key physically would support the connection of NVMe, it doesnt mean that it is electrically wired to support it.
