Why has NATO seemingly shifted its stance on getting involved in military deployments to (re)open the Strait of Hormuz?

Because, it now transpires that the Tangerine Tyrant threatened to withdraw support from Ukraine unless NATO members pitched into the US/Israeli initiated Iran conflict.

Obviously we shouldn't be surprised, the TT is always transactional, but this (to me) represents a new low even for him.... a complete disgrace as a human being!

@ChrisMayLA6 Well, let’s face it, it’s no surprise that a complete disgrace as a human being acts as if he is a complete disgrace as a human being. Problem is, this complete disgrace is wrecking the world, killing people and destroying the lives of the living and nobody appears to be able to stop him.

@alex_p_roe

Indeed, and as Martin Wolf notes: the US voters keep on voting for him....

@ChrisMayLA6 @alex_p_roe on the other hand: we, in Germany probably have the worst gov in ages. They, too, were voted in.
All that erosion of all things social while protecting the ever increasing riches of billionaires - who votes for that?
There is a lot of manipulation going on via media, parties that call themselves conservatives who conserve nothing but their own wealth get paid by industries to fullfill their wishes.
Average income people vote them in. Without any benefits for themselves.
@energisch_ @ChrisMayLA6 It's pretty much the same everywhere - the Right, which caused many of today's problems, claims it can solve the problems it caused but does not. Instead, it just makes the rich, richer but the poor (blinded by ignorance and issues like immigration) seem to be happy to vote to make the rich, richer! And the media manipulation has reached laughable levels but it works and keeps the poor voting to make the rich richer!

@alex_p_roe @energisch_ @ChrisMayLA6

Calling immigration an "issue", you seem to fall for the same manipulation that you describe.

Other than that, I agree with your analysis.

@crabby @energisch_ @ChrisMayLA6 True, immigration should not be an issue but it is. It's something that needs to be managed carefully and sensitively when it happens at large scale. Think of it like this: when you go on holiday to a new country, you (should) behave a little differently until you go home. If you move to that county, you need to adapt your behaviour to the culture of the new country. It's common sense, really.
@alex_p_roe but you must also keep your cultural identity. IT IS Part of human dignity and thus an important part of human rights @crabby @ChrisMayLA6
@energisch_ @crabby @ChrisMayLA6 But you might want to try to fit in. Immigration could be managed better if we tried to understand how to help immigrants fit in - if they want to and encouraging (not forcing) them to try would help them integrate more quickly. Those displaced by conflict or persecution should be treated with more sensitivity.
@alex_p_roe of course - but you don't need people to teach to fit in, just welcome them and help them to infos how to get around. As well as help them learn the language, find lodgings/apartments etc. @crabby @ChrisMayLA6
@energisch_ @crabby @ChrisMayLA6 Yup, services like that would be very useful though I have no idea whether they exist or not. Also giving immigrants the chance to meet locals might help. The investment would pay for itself very quickly IMO.
@alex_p_roe We have meeting places for immigrants and natives, like cafes and such in Munich. People who volunteer to help, too. There's something like that in many city districts. i.e. assistance in learning to ride a bicycle and learn the traffic signs and rules. @crabby @ChrisMayLA6
@alex_p_roe @crabby @ChrisMayLA6
Most of these opportunities are started by private persons, or local groups who already do something together and just invite newcomers. I like that very much about my town - it's mostly friendly to new people. No matter where they come from or why they came.
@energisch_ @crabby @ChrisMayLA6 Lovely to hear about what is done in your town! But, really, the State should at least fund such initiatives or at least provide some guidance. Anyway, welcoming people is what is needed. Many immigrants simply want an opportunity to have a life and a future. I myself am the product of immigration but from around 200 years ago.
@alex_p_roe Our civilizations couldn't have developed in arts, crafts and sciences, technologies if not for migration. We humans do get smarter, brighter, more creative when we have a lot of diversity around us. This is not only an advantage in nature, but also in human social environment. I really cannot understand how some people can be strictly against migration. Not even those who had been migrants once themselves. @crabby @ChrisMayLA6
@energisch_ @crabby @ChrisMayLA6 Ha! Those that are the result of migration, such as myself, a certain US president and most of the US population should never be against it and it is hard to understand why they are. Perhaps it is because they’ve been brainwashed by politicians using hate to earn votes? Diversity is wonderful and should never be used as an excuse to detest others. Sadly, it is.
@alex_p_roe exactly, most nations wouldn't even exist without migration - when you look at the start of humankind, we all came out of Africa once ;-) @crabby @ChrisMayLA6
