Moldova just voted to cut its last formal tie to the post-Soviet bloc Russia built to keep its neighbors in line.

The reason? Russia violated every principle the CIS was founded on — on Ukraine's territory, Georgia's, and Moldova's own.

President Maia Sandu now needs to sign the law. Then the clock starts: 12 months to formal withdrawal.
