(There are still no capybara, guinea pig, or squirrel emoji as far as I know.)

@SBLBrightonLDR yes, they say you can use hamster for guinea pig too, but there are good arguments for a separate squirrel emoji

- However, the mammoth and dodo emoji (also proposed by Andrew) eventually made their way to Unicode in 2020, so I guess there are grounds for hope...

According to the Emoji Proposals Status page, it seems that the capybara emoji has already been declined several times, the latest submission/decision being in 2025, and it says that "emoji that have been declined are not eligible to be re-submitted for four (4) years."
@mikaeru @CharlotteBuff and guinea pig was declined in 2024, bummer (they're better substitutes for each other than hamster for either)

Ian Kluft ✅🖥️📡@dmarti There's also no gopher emoji. So when I post stuff about GoLang, I substitute in a hamster. 🐹 Though for how Go presents its gopher mascot, that's close enough.
