Happy emoji proposal re-opening day to all who celebrate.
Emoji season runs from today through Jul. 31.
(There are still no capybara, guinea pig, or squirrel emoji as far as I know.)

@SBLBrightonLDR yes, they say you can use hamster for guinea pig too, but there are good arguments for a separate squirrel emoji
- I just found this very well-documented page listing all rejected emoji proposals, by @CharlotteBuff.

This interesting document indeed mentions the proposal for the squirrel emoji by Andrew West (RIP), along with the resulting decision:
https://www.unicode.org/L2/L2018/18024-emoji-recs12.pdf
- However, the mammoth and dodo emoji (also proposed by Andrew) eventually made their way to Unicode in 2020, so I guess there are grounds for hope...
@mikaeru @CharlotteBuff The Internet loves capybaras, seems like that would be the logical next rodent to cover.
(yes, there is a change.org petition but that's not how you get an emoji in... https://www.change.org/p/we-need-a-capybara-emoji )

According to the Emoji Proposals Status page, it seems that the capybara emoji has already been declined several times, the latest submission/decision being in 2025, and it says that "emoji that have been declined are not eligible to be re-submitted for four (4) years."
