Hydrogen that is derived from water by using electricity that is produced with the wind, the sun, and water will eventually replace fossil fuels used in internal combustion engines. Battery operated vehicles will exist, but on a much smaller scale.
@frankmckinnon The problem with this is that while it is technically possible, the energy losses from converting water to hydrogen using electricity and then burning it (which is still burning stuff by the way and still produces NOx) is way less efficient than just storing the electricity in a battery and using it directly. Fuel cells are better than burning, but still far less efficient than a battery.
Hydrogen just doesn’t make sense.
