“UK looks to relax planning rules for factory farms after industry lobbying.” Labour government chickens {joke} out to business lobbying again! #Labour #Environment #Pollution #AnimalWelfare
@pedestrians1st the effluent concentrations factory farms represent are the main reason our rivers are in such poor condition. Factory farms provide bad food, bad water and are a haven for disease, unless flooded by antibiotics. But plenty of profit for the mega companies that own them. Why doesn't the NFU come out against them, or if it is make more noise about it.
@epistatacadam @pedestrians1st farmers will be glad of those effluents now artificial fertiliser is so expensive. Applied correctly and in the right weather it doesn’t cause an issue. It is farmers spreading too near watercourses and leaks from storage that do the damage.
@John_Loader @pedestrians1st absolutely. The factory farms do not have arable land to spread it on. So they store it a pay someone to take it away.
As you say storage leaks are a big problem, less storage less of a problem. Well run mixed farms, use animals as a fertiliser and carbon storage system for their grain and vegetables. The relatively small amount causes next to no problems.
