PCB for my next keyboard is on a way. So I thought that it is a good time to create some bottom case for it.

Launched FreeCAD, imported PCB as STEP file and started cursing.

I think that for some time I will use it without any case.

I can go into Sketch mode and draw over imported STEP file. But then was it the whole point of importing it?

Argh.

#FreeCAD

@hrw look into the external projection features, should see an icon on toolbar when in sketch workbench

@brettowe I went ugly way and started drawing needed pieces with STEP layer as background.

Got all 13 mounting holes that way, now have to enlarge them to fit threaded inserts.

And gave up on getting PCB shape - got case which is ~symmetrical compared to it.

@brettowe

"This object belongs to another part, can't link."

First case will be done in "not that bad" style. Or maybe I will try another day, who knows.

Can share files :D

@hrw while the body you want to create sketchs is focused choose the other part with a single click then use the sub shape binder (green icon on toolbar) you should see then some yellow going on, hide the original part and you should see a yellow transparent version of that part. then try the sketch projection again
