Emily@danielbowen That’s what people here in the US say about free healthcare - “doctors deserve to be paid”. It’s either someone who is giving evil arguments to try to sway people who don’t understand, or the people who don’t understand uncritically repeating it. I hate it.

i never considered that angle. i can't even argue because it's not an argument. it's a statement, and a totally irrelevant one.
and worst of all, fundamentally, i agree. they do deserve to be paid. they deserve it so much that they are, in fact, being paid. old mate has achieved total rhetorical victory.
